Passivated 416 stainless steel dowel pin meets MIL-Spec MIL-MS16555 and is commonly used as a joining and locating device, pivot, hinge, shaft, jig, and fixture in machine tool fabrication. Pin is slightly oversized for a tight fit. Both ends are chamfered for easy insertion.
Passivated stainless steel 416 is stronger than both type 316 and 18-8 stainless steel, and is magnetic. Minimum Rockwell hardness is C36. Stainless steels are used for their corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, scaling resistance, and low-temperature toughness. These properties account for their wide use in practically every industry. Pin’s outer diameter tolerance is +0.0001" to -0.0001”
The dowel pin, also known as a parallel pin, is commonly used to retain parts in a fixed position or to preserve alignment. They are often used as precise locating devices in machinery and may have a smaller or larger diameter than their designation hole, which allows them to fit freely or tightly.
