Product Description

This SPT-I series 18 AWG copper lamp cord wire is 500' long, has a black PVC outer cover for insulation, and is suitable for use at up to 300VAC in commercial wiring applications. The 18 AWG (American Wire Gauge) wire has two flat-bound conductors with PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation that has an operating temperature range of -20 to +105 degrees C. This stranded copper wire is UL 62 (Underwriters Laboratories) Listed and CSA certified and is suitable for use in wiring small appliances and electronics such as lamps and radios.

Electrical wire carries an electric current or grounds an electrical device. The amount of current a wire can carry is proportional to its size (gauge), and the wire is generally sheathed with coatings and coverings to insulate and protect it from moisture, chemicals, heat, and abrasion. Copper is the primary material for electrical wire, but alloys are sometimes used to increase its strength or its resistance to chemicals and the environment. Wire can be composed of a single strand or of many smaller strands, depending on its use, and is typically annealed to improve its ductility. Electrical wire is commonly used in industrial, electronic, and automotive applications.
