Scotch® Cable Jacket Repair Tape 2234 patches abrasion, breaks and cuts in electrical cable jackets that come from dragging, reeling, and rough handling, which typically occurs during transport, installation, and usage. When the cable jacket is damaged, the electrical system may become compromised from moisture and other contaminants. But in certain instances, the cable jacket doesn’t necessarily need to be replaced, but can often be repaired with cable jacket repair tape, which can restore the protective qualities of the cable jacket many times.
Versatile Repair Tape Protects Cables from Contaminants
Cable jacket repair tape works for flexible portable power cables, draglines, diesel locomotive cables, welding, and shipboard cables. This repair tape is suitable for use on either single or multi-conductor cables. This electrical tape is preferred for sealing cable systems because the CSM rubber backing resists oil, chemicals, abrasion, moisture, and degradation that can occur when exposed to harsh environments. Once applied, the tape seals the electrical components from moisture and other contaminants.
A Tape for Both Simple and Substantial Cable Jacket Repairs
This tape may be used to repair either slightly damaged cable jackets or more substantial repairs in which a section of the cable jacket is missing. For small defects in the cable jacket, wrap Scotch Cable Jacket Repair Tape 2234 over the damaged area and then apply Scotch Super 33+ Vinyl Electrical Tape (sold separately) to secure the ends. For more significant repairs where a portion of the cable jacket is missing, first apply Scotch Linerless Rubber Splicing Tape 130C (sold separately), building up and across the splice until it is equal to the original cable jacket thickness. Then apply Scotch Cable Jacket Repair Tape 2234 over the repair. Finally, secure the ends with Scotch Super 33+ Vinyl Electrical Tape (sold separately).
Easy to Apply at Worksites
The flexible tape goes on smoothly and bonds instantly to make electrical repairs in the field an easy task. A mastic adhesive, which is preferred for heat resistant properties, securely adheres to most power cable jacket materials without loosening or separating, delivering a reliable seal that will maintain the integrity of the cable jacket for the long term. Self-healing properties allow the tape to repair itself from any small cuts and abrasion that may occur. This tape is proudly made in the USA.
An Electrical Tape that Meets Professional Grade Specifications
This 60 mil thick tape provides both sealing and insulating properties. Designed to handle high heat environments, the tape has a maximum operating temperature of 266°F (105°C). The dielectric strength of cable repair tape is 400 V/mil.
