The Scienceware 420290000 Techni-Dome desiccator is a 65L vacuum desiccator constructed of laboratory-grade, chemical-resistant polycarbonate with a gas port and two removable polypropylene shelves. Its top and bottom are hemispherical. Two side handles enable portability and can be used for a lock or tamper-resistant seal (not included). The desiccator holds a full vacuum of 29" Hg at room temperature for 24 hours. It measures 60cm (22") in height and 60cm (22") in width, and can hold items up to 45cm (18") tall or wide. The shelves measure 36.5cm and 22.5cm (14.5" and 9") in diameter. The gas port has a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) stopcock, takes 1/4" I.D. (inside diameter) tubing, and can be closed for use with standard desiccants.
Desiccators are sealable containers used to remove water from a sample, or to preserve moisture-sensitive electronics or lab consumables, typically in laboratory, electronic, and aerospace applications. Desiccators are often used with desiccants, which are drying agents such as silica gel or activated charcoal placed under a removable platform. Standard desiccators are typically lidded jars used with a desiccant. Vacuum desiccators have a stopcock that allows air evacuation from the desiccator. Gas purge desiccators use a gas port to introduce nitrogen or other gasses, creating a controlled environment. Vacuum and gas purge desiccators may also be used with desiccants. Many desiccators are used with vacuum grease, which helps create a seal.
