The PRO Scientific PRO-01-01200 Bio-Gen PRO200 is a handheld homogenizer with adjustable variable speeds of 5,000 to 35,000 rems per minute (rpm) at 120V, a 144-watt, high-torque (1/5 horsepower [hp]) motor, and maximum 68-decibel (dB) noise level. A homogenizer is a device used to blend a substance to a uniform (homogenous) consistency or dispersion in dairy, agriculture, food and beverage, and food processing applications.
The PRO200 has a high-torque motor that homogenizes a substance in seconds. A separate on/off switch allows slide switch speed control. The device homogenizes sample volumes from 0.03 mL to one liter. The device works with a required PRO Quick Connect (5 to 20 mm diameter) rotor stator generator, or a Safety Seal and Sealed Tube (ST) series homogenizer assembly (all sold separately). The generator locks in place on the homogenizer body with a quarter-turn. The Bio-Gen PRO200 uses 120V, 50/60 Hz, and is 1.2 amp. Dimensions are 20.0 x 5.4 x 5.03 cm/7.88 x 2.15 x 1.98 inches (H x W x D). The device weighs 1.4 lb./ 0.6kg. It comes with a tool kit and instruction manual, and has a limited, two-year warranty.
Homogenization describes a variety of processes that provide a uniform composition, character or structure of a substance. Examples include blending, mixing, disrupting, emulsifying, stirring, and dispersing. In the dairy industry, homogenization is the process of using high pressure to pass milk or cream through a tiny opening. This process reduces the creaming tendency of the fat molecules. Common homogenizing methods include ultrasonic, pressure, and mechanical. Homogenizers have a variety of speeds measured in rems per minute (rpm), or meters per second. Homogenizers work with generators that have tip types such as flat bottom, saw tooth, open slotted, and cryogenic. These devices can be used with appropriately-sized tubes, beakers or other containers. The homogenization process is widely used in dairy, agriculture, medical, industrial and research industries, including food and beverage making and food processing.
Since 1992, Pro Scientific Inc. has manufactured a variety of laboratory, and industrial equipment such as homogenizers, centrifuges, rockers, shakers, generators, and stirrers in the Pro Scientific is headquartered in Oxford, CT.
