This Palmetto style 1607 flax compression packing seal with graphite and a petroleum and wax-based lubricant protects pumps and valves from fluid leaks in general service applications. The interwoven braided packing seal is made of premium-grade flax fiber for high tensile strength. The flax fibers are coated with graphite to increase the transfer of frictional heat away from the shaft, keeping the stuffing box cool and reducing the chance of leakage. A petroleum and wax-based lubricant improves break-in time, further reduces frictional heat, and prevents the packing from spinning with the shaft or stem, reducing the chance of scoring and wear.

This packing seal is compatible with media in the pH range of 6-8 (brines, cold water, and oils), has a maximum pressure limit of 250 pounds per square inch (psi), and a shaft speed of 2,500 feet per minute (fpm). It operates to a maximum temperature of 210 degrees F (98 degrees C). Style 1607 is suitable for use in general service applications such as rotary and reciprocating shafts, rams, and plungers, among others.
