Product Description

The Mitutoyo 514-106 vernier height gauge has a measurement range of 0 - 600 mm, and is graduated to 0.02 mm, with + or - 0.05 mm of accuracy.

The scriber, used to mark a position on a workpiece, is 32 mm x 80 mm (H x W), carbide-tipped for hardness and to help prolong life, and is held to the gauge by a screw clamp for secure fastening. The grip-base helps hold the unit in position by hand. An adjustable beam with a ring-type lock nut supports repositioning of the zero reference point for manual change of the base position. The slider and beam are made of hardened stainless steel, with a glare-free satin chrome finish that helps resist rust. The height gauge weighs 16.31 lbs/7.4 kg.

A vernier scale provides precise measurement through a second sliding scale that indicates where measurement lies between marks on the main scale. A calibrated screw mechanism supports fine, uniform slider adjustments.

Height gauges, also called gages, are precision measuring instruments that travel on a vertical column (also called the beam) to measure and/or mark the vertical distance from the base of an object in fine units. The vertical position of the gauge and its attached pointer are changed by turning a calibrated screw, or one or more feed wheels. Recorded rotations are read from a scale, a dial, counters, and/or an electronic display. A screw clamp holds the pointer to the gauge. The pointer is typically sharpened to act as a scriber, and can be used to mark a position on a workpiece by scratching its surface. On compatible units, the scriber may be replaced by an electronic touch-signal probe. Height gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.
