The Mettler Toledo MS24KLIPE NewClassic MS conventional, or precision, balance has a capacity of 24g, an accuracy of 2g (also called readability), a one-second settling time, a stainless steel corrosion-resistant weighing pan, and a high-contrast, backlit display with large numbers for clear readings. The external calibration system and high-performance weighing cell provide consistently reliable measurements. The balance can be operated using AC power or with the built-in rechargeable battery, for increased mobility in the field, or when a power supply is hard to find. This balance is rated to IP65 level of protection against dust and low-pressure water jets.
The balance weighs in 16 different units, tares over the entire weighing range, and displays in seven different languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and Czech. The built-in time and date function enables work in compliance with good practices in many industries, including food and pharmaceutical. Application modes include piece counting, percent weighing, dynamic weighing, and statistics. Three programmable buttons provide shortcut access for routine tasks. A built-in menu lock feature helps prevent unauthorized changes to balance settings. The rear-facing RS232 port allows for quick connection to a printer, computer, bar code reader, or other peripheral device. Fixable rear support feet offer stability, so the balance will not tip under eccentric loads, while overload protection prevents damage to the weighing cell and the balance if too-heavy samples are mistakenly used. An indicator on the front provides quick confirmation that the balance is level prior to use. The high-grade, chemical-resistant, die-cast aluminum housing protects the internal weighing cell from environmental influences and impacts, and reduces the effects of thunderstorms and electromagnetic interference from other equipment that may affect measurement results. The stainless steel weighing pan resists corrosion from spills of most sample materials, and the aluminum housing can be cleaned using most common cleaning agents, including acetone. A protective cover safeguards the balance during storage.

Balances are measuring instruments used to determine the mass of an object, while scales are used to measure the weight of an object. The measurement results from balances are generally considered to be more precise compared to results from scales. Mechanical balances are the simplest type of balance, and use a lever and slide to indicate the measurement. Conventional balances are commonly used in offices, the jewelry industry, and in kitchens, and display results digitally, but are less precise than analytical balances. Analytical balances measure to a high degree of precision and accuracy (0.0001g or better), and display results digitally. These balances have a cover with doors to prevent dust and airflow from affecting the measurement. Moisture balances analyze moisture content in a material sample, using infrared or halogen heat sources to dry the sample and then calculate the moisture content from the before- and after-drying weight, and display results digitally, on the balance, or transfer the information for display on a computer.
Mettler-Toledo manufactures precision instruments for use in research, scientific, and quality control labs for the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, and cosmetics industries. The company, founded in 1989, is headquartered in Switzerland.
