The Mettler Toledo MS204S New Classic analytical balance has a capacity of 220 g and an accuracy of 0.0001 g (also called readability), and offers a two-second settling time that allows for increased productivity. Fully automated time- and temperature-controlled internal adjustments provide fast, accurate, and precise results, while the high-performance weighing cell offers consistently reliable measurements. The below-balance weighing hook suspends bulky items beneath the balance for weighing. This balance is rated to IP54 level of protection against dust and splashing water during use.
The balance has a high-contrast display for readability, weighs in 16 different units and tares over the entire weighing range, and displays in six different languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, and Czech. The built-in time and date function enables work in compliance with good practices in many industries, including food and pharmaceutical. Three programmable buttons allow shortcut access so that routine tasks can be started with one touch of a button. RS232 and USB ports are available for easy connection to a printer, computer, or bar code reader. Fixable rear support feet offer stability, so the balance will not tip over under eccentric loads, while overload protection prevents damage to the weighing cell and the balance if too-heavy samples are mistakenly used. The high-grade, chemical-resistant, die-cast aluminum housing protects the internal weighing cell from environmental influences and impacts, and reduces the effects of thunderstorms and electromagnetic interference from other equipment that may affect measurement results. The balance can be cleaned by dismantling the draft shield, without using tools or moving the balance. The glass panels of the draft shield are dishwasher-safe (non-autoclaveable), and the aluminum housing can be cleaned using most common cleaning agents, including acetone. A protective cover protects the balance during storage.

Balances are measuring instruments used to determine the mass of an object, while scales are used to measure the weight of an object. The measurement results from balances are generally considered to be more precise compared to results from scales. Mechanical balances are the simplest type of balance, and use a lever and slide to indicate the measurement. Moisture balances analyze moisture content in a material sample, using infrared or halogen heat sources to dry the sample and then calculate the moisture content from the before- and after-drying weight, and display results digitally, on the balance, or transfer the information for display on a computer. Analytical balances measure to a high degree of precision and accuracy (0.0001g or better), and display results digitally. These balances have a cover with doors to prevent dust and airflow from affecting the measurement. Conventional balances are commonly used in offices, the jewelry industry, and in kitchens, and display results digitally, but are less precise and accurate than analytical balances.
Mettler-Toledo manufactures precision instruments for use in research, scientific, and quality control labs for the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, and cosmetics industries. This company, founded in 1989, is headquartered in Switzerland.
