Machined Flat Washers are turned on lathes and screw machines instead of being punched out or stamped on on power presses. On any stamped washer there is a die break. This is the difference between where the die pierces the top of the washer, and then continues down through the material thickness. The top of the washer will be larger than the bottom, and if you look at a thick washer you can see that aprox 1/3 of the thickness from the top down is larger, and has a nice finish, while the bottom 2/3 gets progressively smaller, and has a rougher surface finish. On a turned washer, the sides are completely straight, as the machine turns the round stock, and the cutting tools come in and cut evenly across the entire diameter. Turned parts can also be held to a tighter tolerance than stampings, and can produce parts that cannot be stamped. Our turned washers are manufactured from Type 303 Bar Stock, which provides a combination of good strength and corrosion resistance. Parts are slightly magnetic due to the machining process. There is no finish on our turned washers. All products are manufactured in the USA from quality steels.
