Maximum Measurement
The maximum measurement specifies the smallest (minimum) and largest (maximum) dimension or hole diameter that the instrument can measure. For example, an outside micrometer with a maximum measurement of 2 to 3mm has a span of 3mm when fully open, and its spindle can be closed to measure a span as small as 2mm.
