Fastening Type
- Adhesive-backed, pressure-sensitive adhesive, or PSA, is a pre-applied, press-on adhesive
- Glue-on refers to discs where the user applies their own adhesive
- Hook and loop fastenings use a press-on mechanical fastener to adhere the disc to its back-up pad
- Mandrel-mounted fastening type indicates a disc or wheel which comes from the manufacturer mounted on a mandrel
- Metal hub quick-change fastening type discs have central hubs that require a quarter of a turn, and mount to Norton TS, 3M Roloc TS and TSM, or Standard Abrasives SocAtt back-up pads
- Metal three-finger quick-change fastenings refer to a proprietary Norton arbor with metal tabs around the central hole that twist on to lock
- Plastic snap-on quick-change discs have a snap-on central hub, and mount to Norton TP or 3M Roloc TP back-up pads
- Plastic thread quick-change fastening type discs have threaded central hubs that require two-and-a-half turns, and mount to 3M Roloc TR or Norton TR back-up pads
- Round hole fastening type describes the
central hole in a sanding disc, cutoff wheel, or similar, where the
tool's arbor goes through the hole in the disc or wheel and is held on
by a pair of washers and a nut. Depending on the item held onto the tool
by a round hole, there may be a backing pad that also has a central
round hole
- Threaded hole fastening type indicates a disc with a female-threaded central hole that twists on to connect
