The Hanna Instruments HI 8314 is a portable pH, oxygen reduction potential (ORP)/mV, and temperature meter with Automatic Temperature Compensation and manual two-point calibration, a multilevel LCD screen, a pre-amplified pH electrode, and a low-battery indicator. A pH meter is commonly used to measure the pH of substance such as water, food, beer, or wine in laboratory, industrial, and food applications. The multilevel LCD screen displays the current measurement, the current temperature, and has an on-screen tutorial for calibration. This meter has manual two-point calibration through front trimmers with an offset of + or - 1 pH and a slope of 80 to 110 percent. The meter comes with the HI 1217D polyetherimide (PEI) body amplified pH electrode with an internal temperature sensor, a Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) connector, single gel reference, single ceramic-junction, spheric tip, and 1m (3.3') cable. The meter also measures ORP/mV when an ORP sensor (not included) is attached in place of the pH electrode. The input impedance is 10 E 12 Ohm. The operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C (32 to 122 degrees F) with a relative humidity of 100 percent. The meter uses a 9V battery (included) for up to 100 hours of continuous operation. The HI 8014 portable meter also comes with buffer solution sachets, electrode cleaning sachets, a calibration screwdriver, protective case, and instructions.

A pH meter, also called a sensor or tester, is a device used to measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. A pH meter has either a portable or a benchtop body. Many portable meters are handheld devices. Some testers have an internal sensor, and may have a tip and body that fit inside of a container for measurement. A meter is commonly used in many different environments from laboratories to field research and manufacturing facilities. Researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists use a pH meter in aquaculture, agricultural, wine-making, and water-testing, and for scientific applications. Some pH meters may measure additional parameters such as dissolved oxygen (DO), conductivity (also called electro-conductivity or EC), temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, resistivity, or oxygen reduction potential (ORP)/mV.
Hanna Instruments manufactures analytical instrumentation and supplies, including pH meters, electrodes, chemical reagents, and buffer solutions. The company, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Woonsocket, RI, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001.
