Product Description

The Hanna Instruments HI 96729C low-range fluoride colorimeter kit is a handheld device using an advanced optical system to measure the amount of fluoride in a water sample after a reagent is added.

To take a reading, simply fill the cuvette with 10mL of water, add 2mL of the fluoride reagent, and press “read”. The meter uses a tungsten lamp light source, and a silicon photocell with a narrow band interference filter to detect the amount of fluoride present.

The factory-calibrated meter features Hanna Instrument’s Cal-Check validation function, which ensures the meter is properly calibrated, and includes instructions on how to easily recalibrate, if necessary. The meter is water- and dust-resistant, and includes a special locking feature to ensure the cuvette is properly in place for each reading.

The HI 96729C uses an adaption of EPA method 340.1 and Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, 20th edition, SPADNS method. The meter measures fluoride content in the 0.00 to 2.00 mg/L (ppm) range (+ or - 0.03 mg/L + or - 3% of reading at 25 degrees C) with a resolution of 0.01 mg/L. It operates on one 9V battery, and automatically shuts itself off after ten minutes.

Fluoride colorimeters are used for measuring the amount of fluoride present in drinking water and other water sources. Fluoride exists in groundwater from the natural weathering of rocks, from agricultural run-off, and is also sometimes added to drinking water to prevent tooth decay. Fluoride meters are used to ensure appropriate levels of fluoride are present in drinking water, agricultural run-off, and in food and beverage manufacturing.
