Fuller dead blow hammers have a hollow cavity in the mallet's head which is half-filled with sand so the internal load flies forward as the hammer is slammed down, transferring more of the impact to the object while preventing the head from rebounding. Dead blow hammers are ideal for driving large cabinet parts and other assemblies that are being glued together because it delivers tons of driving force without marring the parts. They're also good for driving assemblies apart in case your glue-up goes awry.
