Dial Indicators

Dial indicators, also called dial gauges or probe indicators, are precision mechanical tools used to accurately measure small linear distances, such as surface deviations. The indicator’s spring-loaded plunger, also called a spindle, measures a distance perpendicular… Learn More

The contact points (also called tips) of dial indicator plungers are made in various shapes and sizes to suit the application, and are normally chosen to give a single, repeatable point of contact. For example, ball contact points are used to measure flat surfaces, while flat contact points are used with round or cylindrical surfaces such as rods. They are threaded for interchangeability. Contact points are made of a variety of materials to suit the material of the measured object and the test environment. When selecting a dial indicator, consider the material type and the maximum measurement, as required by the application.
