The BrandTech 120V ME2 oil-free diaphragm vacuum pump has a maximum pumping speed of 1.29 cubic feet per minute (cfm) at 60 Hertz (Hz), an ultimate vacuum of 80 millibar (mbar), an elastomer (FPM) double diaphragm with fabric reinforcement, FPM valves, a single-stage pump, one aluminum-silicon alloy (AlSi12) pump head, and AlSi12 housing. It provides continuous flow rates down to the pump’s ultimate vacuum and performs well when pumping non-corrosive and non-aggressive gases in applications that do not require deep vacuum levels. It can be used in vacuum ovens, in aqueous filtration, and for general pumping operations.
The BrandTech 120V ME2 diaphragm pump does not use oil in the flow path, which decreases the risk contamination from lubricating or sealing oil. The absence of oil also reduces pump maintenance since there is no oil to monitor, change, or dispose of during or after pumping. The FPM double diaphragm with fabric reinforcement has a working life of 10,000 to 15,000 hours. FPM valves perform reliably at a range of vacuum pressures. The single-stage pump with one AlSi12 pump head and AlSi12 housing provides continuous flow rates, even down to the pump’s ultimate vacuum. The pump has no sliding parts on the vapor side of the pump. This configuration eliminates abrasion in normal operation and prevents contamination from dust and other impurities on the vacuum side of the pump. A G 1/4” British Standard Pipe Parallel (BSPP) silencer valve at the outlet reduces noise at the exhaust side of the pump. The BrandTech ME2 diaphragm vacuum pump should not be used for pumping the following: liquids, aspirated dust or particles, substances which may form deposits in the pump, unstable substances, explosive substances, self-flammable substances, or substances which are flammable without air.

Pumps evacuate an enclosed area and move a substance from one location to another. Pump choices are guided by the specific application and required substance compatibility. Diaphragm vacuum pumps (also called membrane pumps) are used in industrial and laboratory settings such as chemical analysis labs, water treatment facilities, and oil refineries. Diaphragm pumps expand and contract an interior diaphragm in order to draw a substance into the pump on one stroke and discharge it on the next stroke. The diaphragm forms an oil-free chamber that isolates the medium from the pumping mechanism, making diaphragm pumps a good choice when contamination is a concern. Ultimate vacuum is the deepest level of vacuum a pump can achieve. Flow rate (also called pumping speed) is a measure of the volume and speed at which a substance is drawn into a pump at its inlet. Compared to a similarly rated single-head pump, a pump with multiple pump heads connected in series will have a lower ultimate vacuum, and a pump with multiple pump heads connected in parallel will offer higher flow rates. A pump can have a mixture of pump heads that are connected in series and parallel, providing both improved vacuum levels and higher flow rates. Back pressure is a measure of the resistance at the outlet of the pump and can be damaging to the pump. Diaphragm pumps have constant flow rates regardless of the vacuum level, but as the vacuum pressure drops, the amount of mass moved through the pump decreases.
BrandTech Scientific distributes VACUUBRAND vacuum equipment in the U.S. and Canada. VACUUBRAND, which is headquartered in Germany, manufactures laboratory and instrumentation vacuum pumps, gauges, and controllers.
