The Benchmark Research Products B1000 BactiZapper Biomega Laboratory Infrared Micro Sterilizer is an electric device designed for heat sterilizing wire inoculating loops and other small items such as needles, glass pipette tips, scalpels, forceps, and tweezers that can fit into the 1.40 cm (0.55”) diameter opening. Designed as an alternative to sterilizing metal tools in an open flame, the BactiZapper operates at a maximum temperature of 815 degrees C (1,500 F) to sterilize items in 5 to 7 seconds of exposure to high heat after being placed into the chamber. The BactiZapper has an outer stainless steel guard to protect the user from contact with the internal core, a ceramic chamber where tools are inserted for sterilization, and a replaceable asbestos-free core element. The sterilizer has a lower temperature setting (500 degrees C/950 degrees F) that can be used as a standby setting for extending the life of the device. The sterilizer is frequently used in laboratories and can be used in both aerobic and anaerobic chambers as necessary.
Chamber dimensions are 1.4 cm (.55”) (D) by 15.7 mm (6.2”) (L), and external dimensions are 16.5 x 10.2 x 15.2 cm/6.5 x 4.0 x 6.0 inches (H x W x D). Weight is 1.3 kg (2.9 lbs). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The electrical source is 120V/60Hz. The device can be used with the BactiZapper B1000-01 loop holder which holds items in the sterilizer.
Infrared sterilizers are devices that use heat to kill bacteria, viruses, or both. They are often used in laboratories to sterilize lab equipment, media and liquids, and can be designed to meet different health, safety, and environmental standards.
Benchmark Scientific manufactures laboratory products and devices such as autoclaves, sterilizers, centrifuges, mixers, shakers, hotplates, stirrers, water baths, glassware, and agarose. The company, founded in 2008, is headquartered in South Plainfield, NJ.
