Amprobe began life in Long Island, NY in the late 1940's under the name Pyramid Instrument Company. In 1960 the company name was formally changed to Amprobe Instrument Corporation. Amprobe continued to design, engineer, manufacture and distribute product from its Lynbrook, NY location until it was merged to form ATP and relocated to South Florida in late 1999. The Amprobe Telaris Earth Test can test the ability of soil and grounding connection to conduct electricity and provide an electrical reference point. Good soil conductivity is needed to limit static electricity charge in potentially flammable situations and minimize the voltage difference between power return and earth ground for personal safety. Resistance testing is done by 2 wire, 3 wire or 4 wire testing methods.
The Amprobe Telaris EARTH-TEST ground resistance meter measures earth ground resistance to evaluate the safety and integrity of electrical systems. Automatic and manual frequency selection reduces electromagnetic noise. The tester uses a selectable 25 or 50V alternating current (AC) test voltage and a 12mA maximum test current. The unit measures earth resistance from 0 to 1,999 ohms. It is safety rated to European Standard EN 61010-1, Category III 300V. It is powered by six alkaline or rechargeable AA batteries and has an auto-off function. The EARTH-TEST is designed for use by electricians and electrical contractors.

Electrical test meters report electrical circuit properties, such as voltage, resistance, capacitance, and continuity. Single-function meters, such as battery testers and voltage testers, measure one property of a circuit, and multimeters measure multiple properties. Electrical test meters display information either in analog form using a needle that moves on a calibrated scale, or in digital form using digits or a graphic representation on an LED screen. Meters have electrical properties that are to be measured and the anticipated range of results, and should have a rating that is higher than the maximum value of the anticipated range. An electrical test meter has multiple settings corresponding to potential ranges of values for the properties it can measure. A manual ranging meter requires the operator to flip through different settings until the correct range is reached. An autoranging meter cycles through range settings automatically until it reaches the correct range.
