The Amprobe GSD600 leak detector senses leaking gas in closed piping systems and is for use in home, industrial, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) maintenance applications. The semiconductor sensor detects methane and propane gas. The attached flexible, stainless steel probe is 17.6" (447 mm) long and provides access to hard-to-reach areas. It has a sensor cap that protects the sensor during transportation and storage. An audible buzzer notifies the user when gas is present and beeps more frequently as the concentration of gas increases, for pinpointing the source of leaks. A display panel with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) indicates the concentration of gas detected. The unit automatically calibrates when it is powered on, helping to ensure measurement accuracy. A mute button silences the buzzer when using the detector in quiet workplaces, and the detector has an earphone jack for connecting a headset (not included) to the meter. The auto power-off feature turns off the unit after 10 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter's batteries need to be replaced. The unit comes with a carrying case.

Leak detectors are used in mechanical, automotive, petrochemical, wastewater treatment, plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications to locate the source of a leaking gas or liquid. Simple leak detectors use dyes, pH- or chemically reactive indicators, or a foaming substance to find leaks in pipes, tubes, fittings, tanks, and cylinders. More complex leak detectors have electronic sensors that measure the concentration of leaked gas or liquid in an area to pinpoint the source of leaks, determine the type of gas present, monitor air quality, and detect electrical corona or failing valves, bearings, and solenoids.
Amprobe manufactures electrical testing equipment for commercial, industrial, and home use. The company was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Everett, WA.
