3M™ Dual Lock™ Reclosable Fastener TB3540 forms an interlocking stem system 5X stronger in tensile than a typical hook-and-loop fastener. Interlocking mushroom-shaped stems provide strength high enough to replace bolts, rivets, welds, and other traditional fasteners in many applications. The fastener simply snaps together, and then peels open later. When mated, the fastener is hidden from view, leaving a smooth, clean surface. The fastener can be opened and reclosed up to 1,000 times.
The 3M™ Dual Lock™ Reclosable Fastener TB3540 surface has 250 stems per square inch. These stems and continuous-film backing are constructed of sturdy polypropylene for maximum strength. Engaged thickness is 0.23 inch (5.8 mm). The rubber-based adhesive bonds well to a variety of low surface energy (LSE) materials, including plastics and powder coated surfaces. It provides high initial adhesion, quick stick, good shear strength, and fair moisture resistance. The fastener is recommended for indoor and limited outdoor applications for use up to a temperature of 120°F.
How the 3M™ Dual Lock™ Reclosable Fastener works: When two pieces of Dual Lock fastener are pressed together, the stems flex and the mushroom heads slide past each other. After passing the mushroom heads on the opposing mating piece, a stem snaps up into its original position, interlocking with the opposing heads. The audible snap signals the fastener is engaged. Dual Lock fastener is available in 170, 250, and 400 stems per square inch. The higher the combined number, the greater the closure strength of the pieces. For many applications, Dual Lock fastener effectively replace screws or rivets—BUT require no tools for installation, leaves a smooth, unbroken surface, and can be peeled apart for repositioning. Common applications for the Dual Lock fastener include attaching signs, enclosure panels, banners, repositionable shelving, vehicle ceiling panels, furniture seats and backs, marine carpeting, and orthopedic brace closures. It is used extensively in transportation, electronics, business equipment, machinery, medical, and sign, and display markets.
